3 Tips to Improve Your Employer Brand

In our previous blog, we discussed some of the many ways your employer brand can impact your job searches and your bottom line. Next, let’s look at three simple ways you can improve your employer brand and use it to attract and retain top talent.

Tip #1: Build your social media presence

Job seekers will turn to Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media sites to evaluate your employer brand, so make sure you devote time and energy to building a strong presence on those sites.

Also be sure to encourage employees to use social media in positive ways. When colleagues celebrate work accomplishments and support one another with tags, tweets, and photos, it shows that your company values relationships and teamwork. That’s exactly the type of work culture that many job seekers are looking for.

Tip #2: Highlight your culture

Imagine a top candidate is deciding between your company and a competitor that offers a similar salary and compensation package. What else does your company have to offer? If you don’t have a good answer, start building one by adding benefits and perks that make the work environment more rewarding and satisfying.

Your employees might appreciate additional flex time, the ability to work from home, or the option of bringing pets to work. Other perks can be as simple as providing coffee and snacks in the office, offering a company volunteer day, or instituting casual Fridays. Ask your employees for ideas, and make sure the benefits are in line with your company values and identity.

Tip #3: Build your brand from the bottom up

It’s critical to involve your employees in the process of strengthening your employer brand, instead of attempting to impose it in a top-down manner. You might gather ideas and feedback informally, or consider forming an employee committee devoted to improving the work culture. When employees leave the company, ask them for insights that current employees may be hesitant to offer on how to improve the culture and improve retention.
